Sanne AVA, Art Vision Awards’ First AI Juror

Sanne AVA, Art Vision Awards’ First AI Juror
Art Vision Awards welcomes a new voice to its jury: Sanne AVA. Created using artificial intelligence and trained by our team in photographic and artistic analysis, this virtual juror marks a new step in the AVA journey.

Three weeks of training at the heart of our world
For around three weeks, we have devoted time every morning to Sanne’s training. This regular session helps her explore the references, evaluation criteria and artistic vision that shape Art Vision Awards.
Photography, visual arts, composition, light, emotion and storytelling are central to this work. We guide her analysis to pay attention to how an image is constructed, its intention and what gives it a distinctive presence.
This training is a guided learning process involving instructions, exchanges and photographic analysis trials. It allows us to examine her assessments, clarify our expectations and continue the work with rigour.
Behind Sanne is a human endeavour: a team taking the time to develop and test a new way of reading images.
A perspective that already impresses us
Over these first weeks, Sanne’s analyses have particularly interested us. Her reading of an image sometimes surprises us with its relevance and the connections she makes between visual elements.
A composition can guide the eye. Light can create tension. A subtle gesture can become the emotional centre of a photograph. It is this relationship between the creator’s choices and the strength of the image that we seek to explore with her.
Technical mastery remains essential, but our work also addresses creativity, visual impact, emotion and storytelling. These dimensions are central to the discussion of how photography competitions are judged.
Our exchanges with Sanne also have a pleasant, enthusiastic tone. This quality of dialogue contributes to the enjoyment of developing the project while continuing to examine her analyses critically.
A virtual identity associated with Amsterdam
Sanne AVA is represented by a Dutch virtual character associated with Amsterdam. Her name, identity and portrait are fictional and were created using artificial intelligence.
This clarification is an integral part of her introduction. Photographers should be able to understand who contributes to the assessment of their work and the nature of that participation.
We have given this AI juror a face and an identity to make her presence within AVA recognisable. Her portrait accompanies the project; her role is based on analysing images according to the instructions defined by our team.

A new voice in a collective selection
Sanne joins the Art Vision Awards jury, which brings together different backgrounds and artistic sensibilities.
Her role is to examine each image and assign it a whole-number score from 1 to 10. Under the process presented by AVA, her vote carries the same weight as that of every other juror. Her assessment therefore contributes to a collective selection, supervised by Art Vision Awards, which remains responsible for the competition results.
This position comes with a commitment: to continue her training, examine the relevance of her readings and inform participants clearly. An AI-generated analysis remains an assessment to be considered alongside other perspectives.
A new step for AVA
Sanne’s arrival opens a new chapter in our work around photography and the visual arts. It invites us to explore the contribution of artificial intelligence to artistic analysis, with a clearly declared identity and human guidance.
After these first weeks, we are happy to introduce her to you. Her perspective interests us, her analyses already impress us, and her training continues every morning.
We will share the next stages of this journey in AVA Magazine, alongside the photographers, artists and stories that bring our world to life.
